Abhay Pethe is a renowned Professor and Head of the Department of Economics, University of Mumbai. He completed his Bachelor’s degree from St. Xavier’s College, affiliated to the University of Mumbai, in 1976, Master’s degree from Department of Mathematics, University of Mumbai, in 1978 and his Ph.D. Department of Economics, University of Mumbai, in 1986.

He was awarded the prestigious Overseas Visiting Scholarship at St. John’s College, Cambridge, and was the official faculty visitor to the faculty of Economics and Politics, Cambridge (U.K.) and Post-Doctoral Fulbright Scholar at the University of Texas, at Austin (U.S.A.).

He was invited by the World Bank to Washington, to make a presentation on Land Markets and Land Management Practices: The Case of Mumbai. He has numerous publications on Economics to his credit. He has been a Professor (Vibhooti Shukla Chair) of Urban Economics and Regional Development, since April 2000.
